Knitting the community together
Residents of Bennochy Lodge and Adam House care homes in Kirkcaldy recently benefitted from a donation of twiddle muffs from LinkLiving’s RealLiving service.
The donation followed the efforts of RealLiving service users and volunteers, who banded together with their needles and yarn in hand to knit for people suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Twiddle muffs are knitted bands with items such as ribbons, beads and buttons attached. They have proven both comforting and stimulating to people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Veronica Cherrbit, Care Home Manager at Adam House said: “I would like to thank RealLiving for its kind donation. We have a dementia unit within our care home and our residents have started using the muffs already.”
RealLiving is an award-winning project which delivers opportunities to participate in meaningful activities at its social cafes or through its one-to-one befriending service, giving older people much needed companionship and support to become more involved in their local communities.
