Fife Carers' Self-Help Project

The Carers’ Self-Help Project provides support in Fife for carers of children, young people, and adults with autistic spectrum conditions who struggle with their own mental health. The service welcomes carers who have a loved one with a diagnosis and those who are on the diagnosis pathway.

What we do

This service offers up to six, free, one-hour 1:1 coaching sessions, teaching self-care techniques to manage any current difficulties clients are experiencing. Group sessions are also available.

Supported self-help is a short-term process which uses materials and techniques tailored to client’s needs. We use an approach which considers how stress makes people feel, think, and behave, and cope with the associated physical symptoms. This approach is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

How we can help you

The focus of the support is to raise awareness of self-help materials and approaches available and to assist and empower carers to access and use these materials to maintain, sustain, and prevent deterioration of their own health and wellbeing. The Carers’ Self-Help Project aims to reduce isolation and help carers improve their mental health and gain skills to feel better within themselves.

How can you get support

This service is offered Fife-wide and people can refer themselves, be referred by a family member, or another organisation. This service is open to a range of carer relationships and there is no age limit. We offer a blended model of delivery which includes face-to-face, telephone, and video sessions (choice of session delivery may depend on locality).
