LinkLiving Skills Academy: Taking trauma training to the next level
The current pressures facing the housing sector and the people living in the communities we serve are undeniable. The impact of the global pandemic, the cost of living crisis along with the current economic and social landscape have forced us all to operate in an unprecedented environment of uncertainty and challenge.
At the same time, we are understanding more how trauma affects people and communities. For example, we know that people affected by homelessness have often experienced complex trauma. This understanding within the housing sector, combined with the current challenges and stressors facing communities has raised interest in how organisations can best respond to the needs of those they serve. In addition, organisations are grappling with how to keep their frontline staff, who are dealing with an increasingly complex workload, motivated and well.
Adopting a trauma-informed approach is beneficial for the communities we work in and is proving to be equally helpful in equipping frontline staff working within them. Not only does it help staff respond appropriately to the people they are working with, but it also supports staff wellbeing and helps mitigate against the impact that working alongside trauma can have on a worker.
LinkLiving Skills Academy, part of the Link Group of companies, seeks to help organisations to become trauma informed. In addition to its current trauma training offering, LinkLiving Skills Academy now delivers the Professional Development Award (PDA), Approaches to Trauma Informed Practice which is an SCQF Level 7 accredited qualification.
Participants undertaking the PDA in Approaches to Trauma Informed Practice will consider the importance of being an informed practitioner in supporting individuals who may be affected by trauma and explore both therapeutic and organisational approaches to trauma. The PDA is of relevance to professional staff who have a remit to work alongside people experiencing or who have experienced trauma.
