Six tips to improve your mental health

Maintaining good mental health and wellbeing is just as important as your physical health. Trying out some of our top tips could help to boost your mood and help with your day-to-day stresses and challenges.

Create a routine
Introducing structure to your day can give you a sense of control and can increase productivity, focus, and stress levels.  Try to wake up, eat, work, and go to sleep at the same time each day. This can leave us feeling more organised and accomplished, giving us time to relax and do things we enjoy.
  Eat healthy
Eating well can make a positive impact on how we feel. You don't have to completely change your diet, but simple adaptations such as making sure you eat regularly, drinking plenty of water, and adding protein to each meal can give us more energy and improve our mood.
  Stay active
Incorporating exercise into your routine not only improves your physical health, but can reduce stress and release endorphins that make us feel good. Keeping active does not have to be strenuous, why not start by taking a short walk over your lunch break, or getting off the bus one stop early?

Get enough sleep
Too much or too little sleep is not good for us and can make it difficult to deal with stressful or difficult feelings. Work on a relaxing bedtime routine and try and get into/maintain a healthier sleep pattern.

  Keep in touch
Creating and keeping connections is important to our mental health. Socialising with friends, family, colleagues, or even your pet can improve self-worth and gives us the opportunity to share experiences with each other. Why not sit with a colleague during your lunch break, or phone a friend or family member on your way home from work?

Make time for yourself

Practicing self-care is known to make you feel healthier, do your job better, and be able to care for dependents more effectively. Try to do something you enjoy every day, whether it be a walk, an exercise class, reading a book, listening to your favourite music, or meeting up with a friend.
