Independent living skills

The Independent Living Skills (ILS) Group Workshops are for young people aged 16 to 25 in Edinburgh. The course is designed to help young people, whatever their background, find stability and confidence in living independently, maximising their income and understanding their housing options.

This is achieved through 2-hour group workshops which cover the following essential topics:

  • Budgeting and Financial Management
  • Housing options and tenancy responsibilities
  • Maintaining and Cleaning your Home- Hygiene, Recycling and Bills
  • Being Safe at Home- Fire Safety and Gatekeeping
  • Cooking Skills
  • Antisocial Behaviour and Being a Good Neighbour
  • Community
  • Planning for the Future

The sessions are in person and held at various community hubs in Edinburgh. Groups normally have no more than five people attending at once.

“I actually enjoyed coming to the course… We learnt what you need to know when you move into a house… you can tell she [Agnes, EYPS] is really passionate about what she's doing.”
