LinkLiving believed in me: New video marks 25 years of improving lives
To celebrate 25 years of supporting people across Scotland, we've released our first ever brand video. Its title says everything about how we work.
How do you fit 25 years into 87 seconds?
That was the challenge we set ourselves when we commissioned our first ever brand video to mark LinkLiving's 25th anniversary. Since 2001, we've grown from a small care and support charity into an organisation that works with more than 2,000 people every year in Fife, Falkirk and Edinburgh.
That growth makes us proud, but it doesn't make us easy to summarise, partly because so much of what we do is designed to look like ordinary life.
On any given day, you might find a LinkLiving support worker helping a young person set up the gas and electricity in their first tenancy, because even positive life milestones come with new obstacles. A self-help coach in a community hall in Leven, sitting with someone as they work through the lasting effects of childhood trauma. A volunteer befriender sharing a cup of tea with an older person in Fife who might not otherwise speak to anyone that week. A LinkLiving Skills Academy trainer showing frontline workers from other organisations what trauma does to people, and what patience can undo.
Some people need us for a couple of hours a week; others stay connected with us for years. Some reach us at sixteen, in crisis, with nowhere safe to sleep that night; others find us late in life, when the days have grown quiet. There's no single story that covers all of that. But there is a single approach, and it hasn't changed in 25 years: we don't judge. We listen.
Rather than trying to show everything we do, the video — titled LinkLiving believed in me — follows one person’s journey. From feeling "alone, like I was slipping through the gaps" to finding "hope, independence and a way forward."
Along the way, it captures the thing we most wanted people to understand about us: how we work matters as much as what we do. Trust is built slowly. People set their own pace. Our job has never been to fix someone's life for them. It's to believe in them until they can believe in themselves.
This video is the first of three we'll be sharing over the coming weeks. Two more — one about our services for young people, and one about our mental health support — will take a closer look at the day-to-day work behind it.
Watch the video below, and if it moves you, share it with someone you know. We’re better equipped to tell our charity’s story than ever before, but we need your help to reach new people.
